What is Phrase?
Definition:
_ Group of words.
_ No subject verb combination.
_ No meaning if used alone.
_ If used in a sentence has a unique meaning.
EXAMPLE:
1_I built a beautiful home
PHRASE
TYPE OF PHRASES:
FIVE PHRASES Based on Part of speech.
Verb Phrase, Noun Phrase, Adverb Phrase, Prepositional Phrase, Adjective Phrase.
1_ NOUN PHRASE:
Acts like a noun in example sentence:
Noun + other associated words which modifies noun.
EXAMPLE:
1_Woman in the window shouted for help.
2_She bought a decent black shirt.
2_VERB PHRASE:
Group of main verbs, helping verb in a sentence.
EXAMPLE:
1. She has finished her work.
2. You should study for exam.
3_ADJECTIVE PHRASE:
One or more words word together to give more information about an Adjective.
Adjective phrase modifies noun.
Example:
1_I am very happy with his work.
2_The cost of the plane ticket is way too high.
4_ ADVERB PHRASE:
More or one words contacting together to give more information about an adverb.
Adverb phrase modifies verb.
Example:
1_They ran really fast.
2_He drank the milkshake much quicker.
5_ PREPOSITIONAL PHRASE:
One or more words work together to give information about prepositional.
Informs about time, location, or possession, or condition.
Example:
1_He is sleeping on the carpet.
2_He always speaks in loud voice.
