What is an adjective?
An adjective modifies a Pronoun or Noun by identifying, describing or quantifying words. An adjective as always precedes the noun or the pronoun which it modifies.
In the next examples, the highlighted words are adjectives.
_The truck-shaped balloon floated over the treetops.
_Mrs. Morrison prepared her kitchen walls with hideous wallpaper.
_The back room was filed with large, yellow rain boots.
Adjective can be modified by an adverb, or clause functioning or by phrase as an adverb. In the sentence.
_My husband knits intricately patterned mittens.
For Example: the adverb " intricately " modifies the adjective " patterned ".
Some noun, many pronouns, and many participle phrases can also act as adjectives. In the sentence.
_Eleanor listened to the muffled sounds of the radio hidden under her pillow.
For Example: both highlighted adjectives are past participles.
Grammarian also conscious articles (the, a, an) to be adjective.
